Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) - Reducing the Illicit Arms Trade in Africa
Illicit arms flows continue to promote conflicts in many African countries, from petty crime to insurgencies and terrorist activities. Researches show aims to highlight how illegal small arms and ammunition flows can be identified and broken
down, providing entry points to intercept and halt the trade.

Message From Our Secretary General
Esteemed Participants,

It is utmost pleasure for me to welcome you all to House Model United Nations Conference 2020, which will be held on 27-28 June 2020. I will be serving as your Secretary-General. My name is Elif Okumuş and I am currently studying at Istanbul Atatürk High School of Science. My MUN journey has started 3 years ago and since the beginning of high school, I always thought about having my own conference with my hardworking friends. Because Covid-19 has shown up, a lot of conferences have been canceled or postponed. Since the beginning of quarantine, we have started to make mock debates with my friends- now they are members of the academic and organization team. We have prepared a fascinating conference in order to give our participants a unique experience right from their houses.

We have 3 amazing committees for our fellow delegates. The first one is the Disarmament and International Security Committee with the topic of ‘’Reducing the Illicit Arms Trade in Africa’’. Illicit arms flows continue to promote conflicts in many African countries, from petty crime to insurgencies and terrorist activities. Researches show illegal small arms and ammunition flows can be identified and broken down, providing entry points to intercept and halt the trade.

Our second committee is the High-Level Political Forum. Our delegates will be discussing the topic: ‘’Setting the Agenda for 2030’’. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership.

And our last committee is Joint Crisis Committee. The topic is ‘’Cold War’’ and our participants will experience a fantastic crisis committee. The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the Soviet Union and the United States and their respective allies, the Eastern Bloc and the Western Bloc, after World War II. NATO and Warsaw Pact will be faced in this committee.

Dear Our Beloved Participants,

​ My name is Asya Uzun and I am your Director-General in House Model United Nations Conference 2020. I am very honored to welcome you all to House Model United Nations Online Conference, representing my Organization Team. We are currently living through a pandemic, but that is an obstacle we can bear. That's why we wanted to found this online conference, which will hopefully be both as amazing of an experience as a normal MUN, and as productive as one. I would like to show my gratitude to our teams; our hard-working Organization Team and wise Academic Team. They spent hours to make this conference the best it could be for you, both for your academic skills and entertainment. I assure you that you can consult them at any point before and during the conference for your best interest. We hope that your House Model United Nations 2020 will be amongst the better ones you made during these hard times. Stay home and take care of yourselves.

What language is the conference in?​
House MUN is English only. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.
Do I have to write position papers?
While we strongly encourage position papers to allow you to get an understanding of the topic at hand, they are by no means mandatory. However, we will be giving feedback on position papers and an award for the best one. (You have to write it with Times New Roman, 12 punto and you should send it to hmun2020pr@gmail.com UNTIL June 27, 2020 Saturday 23:59 according to UTC +3) (If you don't know how to write one, check out: https://bestdelegate.com/how-to-write-a-winning-position-paper/) (Participants in JCC Committee should not write Position Paper.)
Is there a dress code?
Western Business Dress is preferred but not mandatory. We realize that not everyone can get western business dress where they are isolating, so please just dress appropriately.
What is the platform we are going to use?
We are going to use the app "Discord" for its unlimited chat time and for its rooms feature.
What is the procedure?
Conference's procedure is Harvard.
What do I get?
Along with participation certificates and the possibility of receiving awards, all delegates will receive confidence along with expert debate coaching and feedback if they request it. Everyone can learn more about the internal workings of key international bodies. House MUN allows you to learn more about issues that are close to everyone's heart. (If you didn't attend to 3 sessions or more you won't be able to get a certificate.)
